Given the numerous challenges capturing headlines these days-from health care to climate change and wars in distant lands-the last thing Americans may want to hear is that a food crisis is looming.

But journalist Paul Roberts says we turn a blind eye to our current system of food distribution at our peril, because the problem will only get worse.

Roberts describes the dilemma in his book "The End of Food", which came out last year. Monday he’ll be speaking at the University of Vermont as part of the school’s Aiken lecture series. He’s visited Vermont before to talk about farm and food related topics and this time he’s being asked to speak to issues that would directly impact the state.

But Roberts says Vermont is better situated than most states to deal with problems related to food:
