Like an unearthed time capsule, a new book of previously unpublished stories based on interviews with Vermonters reveals in great detail what life was like in Barre during the Great Depression of the 1930’s. The book features stories about the lives of more than 100 Barre residents, most of whom had some connection to the granite industry.

The collection of 52 stories published by the New England Press is called “Men Against Granite.” Mitch Wertlieb talks with the managing editor of the New England Press Christopher Bray about the book. (To hear the interview, click on the “Listen” icon.)

Note:
Readings from the book can be heard Thursday night at the Old Labor Hall on Granite Street in Barre.
