(Steve Delaney) In the high country of Vermont between Rutland and Woodstock, bears are out looking for acorns and beechnuts. It’s prime black bear country – thinly populated and crossed by only a few roads. But where the bears and the cars meet, the bears are often killed. A cub was struck by vehicle last week on Route 107.
Chuck Wise is trying to change that. He’s a transportation planner with the Two Rivers Ottaquechee Regional Commission and he’s focused on the interaction between humans and bears. Mr. Wise, welcome to Morning Edition.
