East meets west in Burlington as the University of Vermont ushers in its healing therapies week with a series of demonstrations by one of the world’s foremost authorities of Qi Gong, an eastern healing art with roots that stretch back thousands of years.
Dr. Effie Chow is the founder of the East-West Academy of Healing Arts, based in San Francisco. In 2002 she was appointed to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy. Dr. Chow says Qi Gong can be used to treat a vast array of afflictions, based on the most basic functions that support and sustain life. She spoke with Mitch Wertlieb about the healing therapy.
