The recent earnings report from Vermont’s largest manufacturer, IBM, was not encouraging.

The news that the Vermont division reported a sharp drop in revenues in 2008 wasn’t surprising given the mostly gloomy economic picture being painted around the country, but it is curious in this respect: IBM’s most recent overall earnings report showed positive numbers from the company’s other main divisions outside Vermont.
