Paddling enthusiasts will be even more enthused than usual this weekend with the opening of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail – an official mapping covering 740 miles of water trails that wind throughout New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and a small portion of Quebec. The timing coincides with tomorrow’s National Trails Day, and ceremonies will take place in many communities to mark the occasion including Newport, Vermont.

Kate Williams is the Executive Director of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. She spoke with Mitch Wertlieb about the trails history and what paddlers can expect while traveling the watertrail.
