Interview: Law professor Cheryl Hanna on campaign finance reform

Last year, Governor Jim Douglas vetoed a campaign finance reform bill. The House tried to override the veto but fell short — barely. Now the issue is coming up again, but this time around, dealing with an altered campaign finance reform bill. The Senate by a wide margin was successful in overriding Governor Douglas’ veto. The House will vote on a veto override soon.

So, will this new bill be challenged as it was last time, in a case that was ultimately decided by the U.S. Supreme Court, which rejected Vermont’s limits on political party contributions to individuals running for office?

Vermont Law School professor Cheryl Hanna helps us look ahead to what might happen with this new campaign finance reform legislation, and explains why the Supreme Court struck down Vermont’s previous bill:
