Last year, Governor Jim Douglas vetoed a campaign finance reform bill. The House tried to override the veto but fell short — barely. Now the issue is coming up again, but this time around, dealing with an altered campaign finance reform bill. The Senate by a wide margin was successful in overriding Governor Douglas’ veto. The House will vote on a veto override soon.
So, will this new bill be challenged as it was last time, in a case that was ultimately decided by the U.S. Supreme Court, which rejected Vermont’s limits on political party contributions to individuals running for office?
