State officials held a forum in Bennington last night to hear the community’s reactions to the latest proposal for lighting the Bennington Battle Monument. The Village of Old Bennington has an ordinance that prohibits outdoor lighting. and trustees feel that lighting the monument would ruin the area’s historic character. But supporters see it as a patriotic gesture.
