(Intro) Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s appearances in New York this week have drawn a range of reactions: from anger to bemusement to puzzlement.

For some insight into the political context and the motivations of the Iranian president, VPR’s Steve Zind talked with Mansour Farhang.

Farhang was Iran’s first post-revolution ambassador to the United Nations. He resigned when he was unable to negotiate an end to the hostage crisis.

Farhang is a professor of politics at Bennington College and he spoke with VPR’s Steve Zind.
