It’s perhaps understandable that Vermont has felt a bit distanced from Washington, D.C. in recent years. Vermont was the only state in the nation that President Bush did not visit during his 8 years in office.

Some Vermonters now living in the nation’s Capitol also noticed that Vermont was out of the loop in Washington when it came to the National Association of State Societies.

Narric Rome is a UVM alum living in Washington. Last night he and members of a newly revived society hosted a party in anticipation of tomorrow’s presidential inaugural and he spoke with us from the party last night.

Rome is the President of the Vermont State Society and explains why he and some fellow UVM alumni decided it was time to bring more of the Green Mountain State to Washington, D.C.
