The novel “A Cold Spring” takes place in the small southern Vermont town Amity. The town is fictional, but its inhabitants are instantly recognizable. Nell and Billy have moved to Vermont to start to restart their lives and open a new restaurant. Like most newcomers, they become a magnet for the ensemble of towns-folk, until a mosaic of events changes the lives of everyone around them. When the dust settles, a man is dead, two boys are banished from the town, a marriage has fallen apart, and, out of the ashes, a new romance is born. But if there is a protagonist in the novel, it’s Vermont itself.

“A Cold Spring” is the second novel by Edra Zeisk. Edra has been visiting Vermont practically every year since she was a child. She joins us today from her home in New York City.
