(Neal Charnoff) It was one year ago that the IBM Corporation, the state’s largest private employer, cut nearly 1,000 jobs from it’s Essex Junction plant. With the technology industry in a downturn, the company decided it needed to trim expenses and narrow the focus of its chip-manufacturing divisions.
One year later, revenues are still down, but improving, thanks in part to the cutbacks. But the industry slump continues, and with a state of the art IBM facility in East Fishkill, New York ratcheting up production, questions remain about the future of the Essex Junction plant. IBM spokesperson Jeff Couture joins us by phone.
