This spring, Dummerston artist John Willis was awarded a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. Willis is a photographer and a professor at Marlboro College and for the past 19 years he has been working with kids in Brattleboro through the In-sight Photography Project. The project has become a Brattleboro institution: it provides kids aged 11 to 18 with a place to go, an avenue for expression and the opportunity to develop a skill.

VPR’s Jane Lindholm recently sat down with Willis at his home to learn how the project began.
