Fans of the Boston Red Sox may not want to see the documentary “Still We Believe” that opened in theaters throughout New England this weekend. The film chronicles the 2003 season that ended with a devastating playoff loss at the hands of the Sox nemesis in pinstripes the New York Yankees. For many Sox fans the Game 7 loss only reinforced the notion that the franchise – which hasn’t won a World Series since 1918 – is cursed.

If the movie is too much to take, it might be easier to read about the 2003 season in the newly updated soft-cover version of “Red Sox Century,” the comprehensive guide to the team’s history. Mitch Wertlieb talks with the book’s co-author, Glen Stout, about the 2003 season, the epic series against the Yankees, and whether he thinks former manager Grady Little deserved to be fired for leaving Pedro Martinez in Game 7 just a little too long.
