Students at Champlain Valley Union High will not be surprised to learn
that David Ely is the winner of the Siemen’s Award as the nation’s top advanced placement Science teacher.

Ely teaches Biology and has been inspiring Vermont students for more than two decades. As we’ll hear, he’s also having a positive influence a world away from the Green Mountains.

David Ely grew up in St. Johnsbury and attended the St. Johnsbury Academy.

He recently visited our VPR studios to speak with Mitch Wertlieb. He says his own passion for teaching came from Vermont educators that inspired him at some of the most critical times of his life.
