Interview: Wally Elton, Great Backyard Bird Count

With apologies to a certain federal education program, regional bird enthusiasts are gearing up for an event guided by an ambitious but simple goal: No Bird Left Uncounted. This President’s Day Weekend marks the 9th annual Great Backyard Bird Count, which encourages bird watchers of all ages and skill levels to get out an become citizen scientists by gathering information on the feathered creatures they observe.

Wally Elton is president of the Ascutney Mountain Audubon Society, which is spearheading this year’s bird count. He spoke with Mitch Wertlieb about the event.
