New Hampshire fire officials say an accidental fire at a Jaffrey wood pellet manufacturing plant was spread into metal storage silos by employees who were trying to put it out.
The fire started in the motor of a pellet mill at New England Wood Pellet LLC on Sunday night.
Christopher Wyman, an investigator with the state fire marshal’s office, says it spread onto a pan below the motor where the pellets are dumped onto a conveyor system and a worker sprayed it with a fire extinguisher. But he said the pressure of the extinguisher blast pushed the fire onto the conveyor belt and burning pellets were carried into the silo.
