State and local fire officials are continuing their investigation into the Tuesday night fire in Montpelier that killed an elderly couple.
Montpelier Fire Chief Gesualdo Schneider says it appears that 77-year-old Jay Gordon and his 72-year-old wife Joan were trapped in the basement of their home by the rapidly moving fire.
Schneider says the origin of the fire probably won’t pinpointed until investigators are able to reconstruct the fire’s movement through the house.
Jay Gordon was a former Vermont state auditor.
