The village of Jeffersonville was hit by four floods in less than a year – between October 2010 and August 2011. Two of them were major.

So when the gas station and store, Jolley, bought a big chunk of privately-owned land in the floodplain along Route 15, and proposed a 16 pump gas station and retail complex, some residents in town were concerned. They wanted to keep that land clear of development, and use it instead for flood mitigation.

After a lot of debate, residents recently voted to allow the village to move forward and purchase the land from Jolley, to keep it from being developed. We talk to Jean Jenkauskas, a longtime Jeffersonville resident who helped organize the group opposed to the development.
