A judge has ordered a 79-year-old Morgan man to undergo a mental evaluation to determine if he is competent to stand trial on charges of attempting to shoot his neighbor.

Lloyd Smith has pleaded innocent to attempted first-degree murder. He is being held without bail.

Smith is accused of breaking into a neighbor’s home Monday night and threatening to shoot her.

The neighbor was able to wrestle to gun away from him but a shot went off in the process.

No one was hurt in the shooting.

Smith was arrested Tuesday morning after a nine-hour stand-off with police.

Earlier in the day an off-duty game warden said he found Smith walking around with a loaded rifle and acting confused.
