(Host) There’s another delay in the trial of Michael Jacques, who is accused of sexually assaulting and killing his 12-year-old niece.

Jacques was supposed to go on trial in September. But a federal court judge says now the soonest Jacques will face the charges is March.

Jacques is from Randolph. He faces the death penalty for the 2008 killing of 12-year-old Brooke Bennett.

The Burlington Free Press says that during today’s hearing, U-S District Court Judge William Sessions suggested the trial could be postponed until next summer.

The extra time is needed to resolve an appeal by prosecutors. They object that some evidence they want to present about Jacques’ efforts to obstruct justice can’t be presented at trial.

Brooke Bennett disappeared in June 2008. Her body was found a week later in a shallow grave near Jacques’ home.
