Lt. Governor’s Race
The three major party candidates in the lieutenant governor’s race are exchanging sharp words after an effort to limit spending for their campaign fell through. Two weeks ago, Republican candidate Brian Dubie called on his opponents, Democrat Peter Shumlin and Progressive Anthony Pollina, to cap spending in their race at $100,000. (VPR)

Strawberry Season
The growing season for strawberries is well under way and the Department of Agriculture reports that it appears to be a “pretty good one” for most of Vermont’s approximately 60 growers. The season typically lasts for only two to three weeks. (VPR)

IBM Investment Management
Fidelity Investments is taking over pension and health plans for 260,000 IBM employees and retirees. Fidelity will not be managing employee 401-K plans. (AP)

The Government is hiring airport security screeners for airports around the country. The number of position that will be filled in Burlington is unknown. (AP)

State police are warning Vermonters to buckle up over the July 4 weekend. Police say that will be especially vigilant in enforcing seatbelt laws, and drunk driving laws. (AP)

July 4 festivities may be complicated by a chance of showers, with rain possible on fireworks displays being held tonight in Montpelier and Burlington. (AP)

National Guard Ceremony
Vermont Adjutant General Martha Rainville is presenting a check for $7,500 today to a Vietnam Veterans’ group. The money is Vermont’s share of the cost of building a memorial in Washington to those who died from service-related causes after returning from Vietnam. (AP)
