(Host) A jury says a Bennington couple should get almost $230,000 in additional compensation for land lost to the Bennington Bypass highway project.

George and Joanne Prouty were asking for more money for the seven-and-a-half acres of land taken by the state for the highway.

The Proutys’ attorney, Fritz Langrock, says the couple had been offered $100,000 for their land. The couple had been asking for $500,000.

The Proutys’ case was the first of two bypass land compensation hearings set to be held in Bennington Superior Court this month.

Construction on the bypass is under way and the first segment has already opened.
