The U.S. Justice Department says it has resolved a lawsuit against the state of Vermont for failing to report ballots sent to Vermonters serving in the military and overseas.

The Justice Department says the Uniformed Overseas Citizen Absentee Voting Act is designed to ensure service members may effectively participate in federal elections.

The Justice Department charged Vermont Secretary of State Deborah Markowitz did not report ballots sent to Vermonters serving in the military.

Markowitz has said procedures were changed in last November’s election to allow her office to track the ballots statewide.

The Justice Department says it dismissed the complaint because Vermont now complies with the law.
