Kiss Says Champlain Parkway Will Move Forward

Burlington Mayor Bob Kiss says a long-stalled road project is moving forward.

The so-called "Champlain Parkway" is designed to re-route truck traffic from Burlington’s South End to the Pine Street corridor and downtown.

The project has been bogged down for decades by design issues and the discovery of contaminated soil in the Pine Street Barge Canal at the edge of Lake Champlain.

Kiss says the project has been granted a record of decision from the Federal Highway Administration, meaning it will move into the final stages of design and permitting.

The project is one of the few remaining in the country eligible for 95 percent federal funding.
