A long-awaited new bridge across Lake Champlain will open on Monday afternoon.

The Lake Champlain Bridge connecting West Addison, Vt., and Crown Point, N.Y., will replace a span that was destroyed in late 2009 after being found unsafe.

For over two years, commuters have dealt with long detours and then a temporary ferry running on the site.

The $70 million network tied arch bridge was supposed to open on October 9th, but the construction was delayed by flooding and other issues.

The bridge will open on Monday at 2:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin and New York Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy.
