The Vermont Land Trust is helping the town of Arlington protect a stretch of land along the Battenkill River.

The Land Trust is buying 12 acres of land with about 1,400 feet of shoreline along the famous trout river that will become an addition to the Arlington Recreation Park.

The parcel is across the Battenkill from the existing park.

Arlington select board member Cynthia Browning says it will be up to the town to decide how the land should be used, but it cannot be developed commercially.

But Browning says it will increase public access to the river

The purchase won’t cost the town anything, although there could be other preservation costs.
