State and federal law enforcement officials in Vermont are teaming up to protect children from online sexual predators.

“Project Safe Childhood” will crack down on Internet predators, increase public awareness of the online threat and help with an education campaign designed to protect children from exploitation.

The project was unveiled yesterday by Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell, Vermont U.S. Attorney Tom Anderson and others.

Statistics show that child exploitation crimes such as child pornography have grown exponentially.

The federally funded Project Safe Childhood should broaden the existing efforts of the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
