Vermont lawmakers completed action on several bills during the first half of the 2012 legislative session, which started in January.

The Brattleboro Reformer says Gov. Peter Shumlin signed 10 of the measures, most recently the bill designating skiing and snowboarding as the official winter sports of the state.

Lawmakers also passed a bill authorizing the state tax commissioner to reimburse municipalities for property tax abatements granted in the wake of Vermont’s natural disasters. The bill makes it easier for towns to give tax relief to property owners who sustained damage after Tropical Storm Irene and spring flooding in northern Vermont.

The Legislature realigned House districts to reflect the population shift, and created a health care insurance exchange to comply with federal law.
