Lawmakers Get Update On Brattleboro Retreat

Vermont mental health officials are planning to give lawmakers an update on the possible federal sanctions filed against the Brattleboro Retreat, a private psychiatric hospital.

The hospital again faces sanctions from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

A February survey found the hospital was not in compliance with federal, state and local laws, and also had substantial deficiencies in protecting patients’ rights. The survey also found that the Retreat did not follow its own quality assessment and performance improvement program.

The House Committee on Human Services gets an update on the situation from a Brattleboro Retreat official and the state’s interim mental health commissioner today.
