The lawmakers who will try to hash out a solution to a pair of controversial bills before the Vermont Legislature have been chosen in Montpelier.

Representatives Robert Dostis, Tony Klein and Shap Smith and Senators Ann Cummings, Virginia Lyons and Richard McCormack will serve on a conference committee for H-520, an energy bill that would impose a new 35% tax on Vermont Yankee nuclear plant’s profits to help pay for an expansion of the state’s energy efficiency utility.

Entergy Corporation, which owns the nuclear power plant in Vernon, and the state’s largest electric utilities are fighting the tax. Governor Jim Douglas has also criticized it.

The three members of the House and three members of the Senate will sit down this week to negotiate the details of the bill.
