Lawmakers in Bennington say they’re working to ensure that the Bennington Bypass highway project gets the $11.5 million that Governor Jim Douglas has budgeted for it.

The spending plan calls for $9 million of the money to go toward the northern leg of the Bypass.

It arcs north of downtown and will connect to the completed leg of the highway that runs between Bennington and New York State.

The House is likely to debate the transportation budget when lawmakers return from their annual one-week Town Meeting Day break.
