(Host) There’s a little known contest in the race for U.S. Senate. Craig Hill from Montpelier is challenging Senator Patrick Leahy for the Democratic nomination. Hill says he’s running to publicize a widely discredited conspiracy theory about the September 11 terrorist attacks.

VPR’s John Dillon reports:

(Dillon) Craig Hill is a single issue candidate, who’s running in as a Democrat in the race for U.S. Senate. But Hill’s issue involves a conspiracy theory that most researchers have rejected.

Hill doesn’t believe that Osama Bin Laden or other terrorists planned the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington. He says the Bush administration is to blame and that Senator Patrick Leahy is part of the cover-up.

(Hill) “The Bush administration created 9/11 so that they could create war on the rest of the world, where energy resources in the rest of the world are desired by them to control.”

(Dillon) Hill says he’s running for office in order to publicize his theories. He said he tried to bring his information about 9/11 to Leahy’s attention. He says Leahy’s staff called it a conspiracy theory and took offense at his accusation that Leahy was involved. Staff members for Leahy said they had no comment on Hill’s allegations.
