Vermont U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy says if President Bush’s nominee for attorney general promises to keep politics out of the Justice Department, he should be confirmed easily.
Leahy is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and will preside over hearings on the nomination of federal Judge Michael Mukasey to repace the recently resigned Alberto Gonzales.
Leahy says he wants to hear Mukasey promise good, honest, non-partisan law enforcement.
