(Host) Senator Patrick Leahy predicts Sonia Sotomayor will be quickly confirmed to the Supreme Court.
Senator Leahy says he won’t permit any "name-calling or histrionics" when the Senate Judiciary Committee takes up Sotomayor’s nomination later today.
Leahy says he’ll push the committee and the full Senate to act quickly after what’s scheduled to be four days of hearings.
(Leahy) "It’s necessary to do it fairly quickly because normally the court comes back the first Tuesday in October. This year, in an extraordinary way, they’re coming back in early September. So we have to get her confirmed before we leave."
(Host) Leahy he’s confident Sotomayor will be confirmed. And he says he’s hopeful that she’ll attract Democratic and Republican votes.
