Lawmakers are returning to Montpelier for Wednesday’s start of the 2005 Legislature. A number of Democratic leaders were in the Statehouse on Tuesday as they prepare to take over the majority in the House and extend it in the Senate. Most Democratic members of the Legislature also are expecting to attend fund-raisers Tuesday night for the party.

The Legislature convenes Wednesday morning at ten o’clock. The first order of business in the House is electing Representative Gaye Symington of Jericho as speaker. Senators are expected to elect Peter Welch of Windsor County as the Senate president pro tempore.
