Lines of traffic form at Canadian border

It’s the busy season along the U.S. Canadian border and some people say it’s taken them hours to get back into the United States.

It’s been so bad that the Quebec Provincial Police have had to direct traffic on their side of the border near Derby Line to keep side roads from becoming blocked.

Officials on both sides of the border say the lines are due, in part, to the ongoing security crackdown in the United States.

They also blame the strong Canadian dollar and the Quebec custom of closing down some businesses in July for a two-week summer vacation.

At the Champlain border crossing in New York, the waits have been worse because of ongoing construction.
