1914 will forever be remembered as the year leading to The Great War. Most books written about that year map the events leading to World War I.

But a new book by author and news analyst Jack Beatty re-examines the origins of war in Europe.

In "The Lost History of 1914," Beatty chronicles largely forgotten events faced by the major countries involved, and shows how any one of them might have derailed the war, or brought it to a different end.

Jack Beatty is a news analyst for NPR’s On Point. He will be appearing at the Kellogg-Hubbard library in Montpelier Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
