The CBS program 60 Minutes aired a report recently casting aspersions on the charitable work in Afghanistan by writer Greg Mortenson, the author of Three Cups of Tea and the founder of an organization that builds schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The story alleged that his organization has misrepresented the way it’s handled some of the donations it’s received.
The ripple effects of that story are being felt by an organization in Vermont. Jonathan Hoffman runs Direct Aid International, which also builds schools in Afghanistan, though on a much smaller scale.
He spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the allegations against Mortenson.
