BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) _ The air traffic controllers union says there’s a shortage of qualified staff at the Burlington International Airport.

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association says in Burlington and across the country the problem is raising safety concerns and adding to delays.

Steve Walsh, president of the local union, says in Burlington recently two supervisors were hired who lacked air traffic control experience.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the amount of qualified controllers at the Burlington airport is below the minimum level but says there are plans to fix the problem.

An FAA spokesman says in the case of the supervisors, the jobs were given to the best candidates.
