A new Lowe’s Home Improvement store could be coming to Essex.

The building-supply retailer is planning to demolish a vacant strip mall and build a 125,000-square-foot store with a garden center and 500 parking spaces.

Two weeks ago the company received the state land-use permit it needs to move forward.

Town officials say they expect Lowe’s to apply for a building permit next month.

Essex Town Engineer Dennis Lutz says the company has to settle a few minor issues, but nothing that would delay the project.
