New Hampshire Governor John Lynch has asked President Bush to declare that Hillsborough, Merrimack and Strafford counties suffered a major disaster as a result of flash flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Hannah.
Lynch said rainfall totals place the storm, which took place September 6th and 7th, in the category of a 100-year rain event. Rain totals in the affected areas ranged from 4 inches to over 7 inches in less than 24 hours.
The state has already received two major disaster declarations for severe weather events that occurred in July and August.
The request is asking for public assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency to cover communities’ emergency operations, debris removal and repair costs.
