New Hampshire Governor John Lynch says the severe thunderstorm and possible tornadoes that hit New Hampshire Thursday killed at least one person, destroyed at least six homes and damaged at least 100 others.

The storm killed 57-year-old Brenda Stevens in a Deerfield home, and sent her husband and a 3-month-old infant to a hospital. The husband was discharged and the baby’s condition was unavailable.

Lynch says at least a dozen people were hurt.

He’s meeting with FEMA officials today to inspect storm damage.

Yesterday, Lynch went to Epsom, in the central part of the state, which seemed to have the most damage. He then flew by helicopter along the approximately 25 miles of damage between Epsom and New Durham to the east. He described a narrow swath of destruction along the route.

Witnesses on the ground say trees were snapped off and blown over, along with powerlines. Lynch declared a state of emergency in five counties and also called out the National Guard.
