Lynch would’ve considered Newman ‘regardless of party’

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch says he would’ve considered picking Bonnie Newman to succeed Judd Gregg in the Senate regardless of party.

Lynch has known Newman for 40 years. The governor says Newman has outstanding integrity, would put the state’s interests first and would work with Democrats, Republicans and President Obama. Newman is a Republican.

Newman says until the next New Hampshire senator is elected in 2010, she’ll work — not as a caretaker — but to the very best of her ability.

Gregg was nominated by Obama to be the next Commerce Secretary. He said he would not resign his Senate seat if it changed the balance of the Senate.
