A Vermont man is accused of driving a stolen convertible more than 100 mph on the city’s Beltline and leading police on a brief chase.

Police say they started pursing the speeding car on Route 127, on Saturday night around 8 p.m.

Lt. Emmet Helrich says the driver tried to elude police and then abandoned the car and a female passenger with it. The Burlington Free Press reports the driver was identified as 31-year-old Brian Leclair, who was found later that night at the intersection of North Street and North Winooski Avenue.

He’s charged with operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, careless and negligent operation, eluding police, unlawful restraint and driving with a suspended license. Police say the car was reported stolen about three weeks ago.
