A California man whose father drowned last winter in Lake Champlain has turned tragedy into opportunity.
Tom Hance says he couldn’t stand the frustration when it took rescue crews three days to find the body of his father Jim Hance, who disappeared while ice fishing near St. Albans.
So the younger Hance, chief executive of a technology firm, developed a new sonar-based device to help first responders search for missing people under ice.
Hance says his EnHanced Ice-Rescue Sonar can be lowered under ice and search an area 100 yards in diameter.
