The town of Manchester is considering imposing a 1 percent local rooms and meals tax.

Proponents say the tax would make up for revenue because receipts on the 1 percent local option tax already in place are down.

Compared to last year, Manchester‘s local option tax has brought in about $150,000 less.

Manchester Town Manager John O’Keefe says the Select Board wants to address the issue now because they are coming in to the budgeting season.

Officials say the drop in tax money on retail sales in Manchester is most likely because of changes in the tax system.
