More than 500 people gathered last weekend in Manchester for an event billed as a poetry protest against a war with Iraq. Eleven poets read their own work, as well as poems by Walt Whitman, Emily Dickenson, Langsten Hughes and others.

The poets included a Pulitzer prize winner and several recipients of the National Book Award. The poems in this audio excerpt are read by: Greg Delanty, Donald Hall, Grace Paley, Galway Kinnell, Jody Gladding, David Budbill, Jay Parini and Julia Alvarez.
