Injured soldiers face long road to recovery

At Thursday’s ceremony to send a new group of Vermont National Guard soldiers overseas, the sad news that came earlier in the week was not far away. Yet it was with good wishes and hope for a safe return that these Vermonters were sent on their way. (VPR)

Leahy still awaits release of interrogation tapes
Senator Patrick Leahy says he’s very disappointed that the Defense Department hasn’t turned over video tapes of alleged prisoner abuse at the Detention Center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Leahy, who requested these tapes last week, says he’s concerned that the Bush administration may be trying to cover up this issue. (VPR)

Nuclear fuel rod search
The company that owns the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant says its investigation into missing fuel rods won’t be finished by the end of next month. (AP)

Bank robber sentenced
A former resident of South Londonderry has been sentenced to over 15 years in prison for robbing a bank. Fifty-seven-year-old Donald Smith had pleaded guilty to robbing the Charter One Bank in the town of Jamaica in December 2002. (AP)
