People in Barre are cleaning up today from flooding that hit the center of the city’s downtown business district in the past 24 hours, while communities across a swath of Orange, Washington and Caledonia counties also were hit with flooding; Congressman Peter Welch was on the floor of the House of Representatives in Washington this morning, calling for passage of the Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Act; in a pilot project conducted by the Agency of Transportation, a hilly portion of Route 9 in Searsburg is being treated with anti-icing chemicals in an experimental process called Safelane Surface Overlay; Lady Bird Johnson died yesterday in Texas at 94: the widow of President Lyndon Baines Johnson was known for her early efforts to encourage re-forestation, and the planting of landscape greenery in public places; in New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton has canceled a campaign day on Saturday to attend the funeral of Lady Bird Johnson and the campaign says tickets for the Rochester and Salem events will be honored at tomorrow’s events in Keene, Nashua and Manchester; the Fish and Wildlife Department holds a lottery each year to determine who gets moose hunting permits and the lottery will be held tomorrow morning in Montpelier.
